VEDAS

Vedas are the word of God, revealed in the beginning of creation of the universe for the moral, spiritual-physical guidance & uplift of humanity. This process is going on since eternity & will go on forever. The Vedas can be seen as the instruction manual for life. Just as we go through the instruction book while using a new product, it is equally important that we understand the do's & don'ts for life. Today we are using the priceless gift of life given by God, but have failed to go through its "instruction manual" - The Vedas. They are quite full with eternal truths & guiding on the various aspects of life to make a man perfect & ideal. From his ( God's ) infinite knowledge, adequately taught for the requirements of the soul, spiritual satisfaction, make life successful& attain Salvation. Since God is infinite & soul is finite, soul cannot have the infinite knowledge of him.

The Vedas have been regarded as the gospel & self-evident truth & complete harmony with the laws of nature for all times, ages & for all segments of humanity. The Vedas have no history in them nor any names of persons & places, nor stories of any particular event or individual; they contain only those words & truths by which knowledge is made known. The source of true happiness & prosperity of the human society lies in virtuous conduct (righteousness). Today mankind id suffering from poverty, disease, misery, pain & anxiety. Only by following the eternal laws & universal truths & principles revealed in the Vedas, through the God's grace, can we hope to overcome the curse of these miseries & calamities.

The Vedas revealed by the God were Rig, Yajur, Sama & Atharva to the Rishies Agni, Vaayu Aadtiya & Angiraa respectively, these four rishies were most competent to receive God's revealation. The names of the Rishis mentioned in the mantras are annotators, those persons capable of foreseeing things & scholars, who clearly explained the meanings of the verses, these rishises are not the authors of the verses. The names of the Devatas mentioned in the mantras is the subject matter of the verse - the topic taught in it.

For correct interpretation of the Vedas, the words should be taken in their derivative, analytical sense i.e., root meaning should be given to the vedic words & not the traditional, customary, conventional & generally accepted ones.

The teachings of the vedas are universal, all the learned persons to preach the vedic truth to all - the Brahmanas, the Kshatriyas, the Vaishyas, the Shudras & the Chandals - the degraded & the wretched. Dwijas, the twice born alone are not entitled to study the Vedas, even Shudras & Women are equally entitled to study the Vedas, persons like KavishAylush-Shudra by birth, Women like LopaMudra were the seers of the meanings of the vedic texts & their names are from times immemorial mentioned in the vedic verses. God is not expected to be partial to one portion of mankind & opposed to the other by depriving them of their birth rights to study the Vedas. As per the God all soul are equally entitled to God's gift & generosities like Air, Water, Sun & his knowledge also. As per Vedas all are religiously equal, all should cooperate& help to the prosperity & improvement of mankind.

The knowledge which are available in the Vedas are as follows : Theosophy (Brahmavidya), Dharma, Cosmogony (theory explaining whence the universe originated), The revolution & rotation of the earth & other planets, Gravitation-Attraction, The illumines& the illumined, The Science of the Mathematics, Praise-Prayer-Worship of God, Salvation, the Art of building Ships & Aircraft, Science of Telegraphy, Medical Science, Rebirth, Marriage, Politics (Duties of the ruler & the ruled), Varnas & Ashrams like Brahmanas, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras & Brahmacharya, Grihasth, Vanaprasth, Sanyas, the duties of the Students, Householder, Dweller & Sanyasies, the five great duties, Truths of Science which the present science has not yet been able to discover, vitality, electricity, Energy, Astronomy, Geography, Geology, Hydrostatics & etc.,

There are 20358 verses in all the Four Vedas ; Rig - 10552, Yajur - 1975, Sama - 1875 & Atharva - 5977. In ancient times learned persons memorized one or more Vedas, nowadays be scholars do so.

Vedas Says : God is only one, formless, unborn, imperishable, creator of the universe, sat (Existence), chit (Infinite Intelligence), anand (Bliss), omniscient (All knowing), omnipresent (Present everywhere), omnipotent (All powerful), Almighty (Controller of the laws of Karmas & Dispenser of complete justice). The most sacred & sublime name of the God is AUM. The letters AUM denote his principal manifestations, i.e., Creation, Preservation & Dissolution. There is no pardon & forgiveness for any sins or evil deeds.

The Soul (Jeeva) is only sat & chit (Existence & Very few Intelligence). It is being eternal, never takes birth nor does it ever die. The entrance of soul into the physical body is called Birth & departing from it is Death. It does not die with physical body - it remains Immortal. It receives a form of life/physical body in accordance with its past good & bad deeds. It is free in its actions but dependent on Almighty God in reaping the results of its action.

God the Almighty created this universe, not just for material enjoyment, but as a means of attainment of Moksha (Salvation). The emancipation of the soul from the pain, misery & cycle of birth & death & the subsequent freedom in the All pervading Divinity is called Moksha (State of perfect bliss).

Those persons who possess good qualities of humanity, impart true knowledge, are charitable by nature, enlightened & are of beneficence to others are called Dev purushaa (Divine beings), The one who is able to impart true knowledge, & is worthy of conduct is ACHARYA (Teacher). The one who is noble, righteous, benevolent & conducts himself in accordance with the principles of Vedas is called ARYA. The human beings, basically noble, are the descendants of the Aryan Race.

The presence of myriad's of tiny particles of Atoms in the atmosphere constitute the Nature. This material universe is Nature's creation.

The characteristics of God, Soul & Matter are eternal, creation has no beginning & no end i.e. Creation follows Dissolution.

Western scholars like Griffith, Max Muller, Monier Willams, Mac Donnel, Bloomfield & Eastern scholars like Sayana, Mahidhar,Ubbat & Damodar Satavalekar had interpreted the Vedas wrongly & hopelessly failed to understand the eternal truth , teachings & belittles the Etymological & Scientific method employed by the Rishies.

Darshan

The literature in which the Rishies broadly described about the philosophy from the Vedas through analysis is Upaang - Darshan Shastra. They are six : Nyaaya, Vaisheshika, Saankhya, Yoga, Meemaamsaa & Vedaanta Vedas, (the word of the God) are the base of all the six. So they are also known as Vedic Darshans.

Nyaya : The author of this Darshan is Rishi Gautama ji. The subject of this darshan is to attain Moksha (Salvation) by getting the philosophical knowledge of 16 (sixteen) objects like Proof/Evidence, Proposition, Logic etc., The order in which the above 16 objects explained is as follows (i) Name (ii) Features & (iii) Detailed examination of the objects. Its main theme is " To examine the things through the proofs & evidences is Nyaaya". God is the creator of the universe, formless, omnipresent, Soul is different from the body, mind etc., & material nature is unintellect & raw material of the universe are clearly explained & proving the Traitavaad. An ancient & authentic commentary on this darshan by Maharishi Vaatsyayan ji is available.

Vaisheshika :
The author of this Darshan is Rishi Kanaad ji. He has described the true form of the Dharma. The mean that is helpful in achieving worldly & spiritual success is Dharma. Moksha ( Supreme Bliss) is obtained by living as truly righteous life & thereby getting the soul purified & exalted, and gaining a true conception of the six entities, viz., Noumenom, Attribute, Action, Commonness, Dissimilitude & Inherent relation, ( as of cause & effect, of whole with its parts). Its main themes are "Nothing can be created without any material', "Absence of the cause is absence of the effect" etc.,

Saankhya :
The author of this Darshan is Rishi Kapil ji & its subject is about the Prakriti & its products & Purusha. It is absorbed that the word "Purusha" is denoted for both the God & the Soul. The basis of this darshan is Sat Kaarya Vaad "Nothing can ever become something , nor can something ever become nothing". The order of Creation & Dissolution of the universe from the Prakriti is exclusively explained in this darshan. Only through discrimination obtained by knowing the true form of the material world & purusha, Moksha/Salvation is obtained. It is also explained that the universe is not false, True in existence by having the material world as the subtle cause & further 24 (Twenty Four) intermediate entities.

Yoga :
The author of this Darshan is Maharishi Patanjali ji & it deals with the Saadhana, Dhyan, Samaadhi etc., & gives a clear-cut idea about the God, Soul & Material world, true form of the God, Vedic worship (Upaasanaa) & Means of obtaining the Moksha (Salvation). Further subtle topics are also explained like, (i) what is yoga ?, (ii) What is the reason of soul's bondage ?, (iii) what are the different stages & attainments of the yoga practitioner (Saadhak) ?, (iv) what are the fluctuations of the mind & how to completely stop it ?, (v) Till what time the connection of the soul & mind exists? etc., An ancient & authentic commentary on this darshan by Maharishi Vyaasa ji's is very familiar in yoga.

Meemaamsaa :
The author of this Darshan is Rishi Jaimini ji. The science of morals is discussed in detail. The concept of this darshan is Dharma, Dharmi (the thing which possess dharma) & Yagya (Sacrifice) & the duties & non-duties of the mankind which range from family life to national service are described, through which the extreme development of the entire nation is possible. Infect the great form of the Dharma is the Yagya (Sacrifice).

Vedaanta :
The author of this Darshan is Rishi Vyaasa ji & the subject is about the Brahmaa (Iswhar) & attainment of Brahmaa / Moksha (Salvation). Its other names are Brahmasootra & Uttar Meemaamsaa. Brahmaa (God) is an entity, which is omnipotent, omnipresent, blissful. He is free from sorrows of birth & death. Jeevaatmaa (Soul) is also a different entity having little intellect & subtle. He wants to get rid out of sorrows. God creates the universe from the Prakriti. The meaning of the Vedaanta is - "The essence of the Vedas".

In short some common principles of the six Darshans are :

  1. By the freedom, from the three types of sorrows, Moksha (Salvation) is obtained.
  2. God, Soul & Prakriti are the eternal causes of the creation of the universe.
  3. Nonexistence of Existent objects & existence of nonexistent objects is extremely impossible.
  4. Vedas are self-proven, because it is gospel-word of the God.
  5. Soul is different from the body, mind etc., & inconsequential.
  6. God is different from the soul, omnipresent, infinite intellect, omnipotent etc.,
  7. According to the God's discipline & deeds done by the soul, the soul repeal the results of the deeds.
  8. The visible universe is the product of the Prakriti.
  9. The reason of the bondage of the soul is its ignorance.
  10. Each & Every body has its own unique soul.
  11. Soul can never become a God, it has its own unique existence.

YOGA

At present Yoga has been propagated a lot in many countries of the world, and a lot of literature has been published on this subject. Many brands of yoga under various names are current : Raja yoga, Hatha yoga, Janan yoga Karma yoga dhyana yoga, Sahaja yoga, Japa yoga, etc., Infact, yoga is only one, not many, and by that one alienate is possible to attain Brahma or Moksha-a state of freedom from sufferings and total happiness of Ananda. We shall concentrate only on Vaidic yoga which has been revealed only in the Vedas & taught & practiced since the beginning of creation. Yoga is a simple scientific discipline of mind & body for the soul's communion with the divine. It is neither magic nor hypnosis. The same is known now by the name Pantanjala Yoga, i.e., Maharishi Pantanjali's version of Vaidic yoga.

Yoga as a philosophy & practical system of physical, mental, moral & spiritual discipline is a great heritage of the Indian people. It is indeed a great gift of ancient India to the entire mankind. It is a discipline which admits of no distinction & discrimination between one human being& another, instead, points the way to self-improvement & ultimate Salivation for all. For this yoga is the only way for everybody, whatever may be religion, race or country.

Today we need Yoga because without the practice of meditation, we cannot attain peace of mind. We have made striking progress in science, arts, technology, economic development, learnt languages, honor, prestige, wealth, power and means of comfort & luxury. But along with& inspire of this progress, we have lost peace of mind. His hopes & dreams are destroyed & everything looks dark, unable to control the mind. In short, the higher the progress, the deeper the affliction. Peace flows from the mind & spirit. It doesn't flow from money or power. We can get peace of mind only through yoga. Yoga gives us control over the mind. We can wean it away from anything & we can concentrate it on anything we want. Desire, anger, greed ,attachment, pride, envy, jealously etc., are mental diseases & the wealth can never be a solution. The solution to these mental affliction can be possible only through grasping the spiritual knowledge & wisdom & act according to that knowledge. Our Rishies have given adequate spiritual knowledge & wisdom in their work of philosophy for the good of the entire mankind.

Today's life is full of violence, falsehood, deceit, betrayal, theft, adultery & many other moral weaknesses etc., is due to the misunderstanding the real nature of the five elements of life & morals mentioned in the Darsana philosophy - Which are Soul, Supreme Soul ( God ), Mind, Intelligence, Sanskara ( latencies lying embedded deep in the mind ).

In the yoga philosophy, this practice is called 'YOGA' ( communion or being in the very presence of God ). The human soul is conscious entity, intelligent & controls the material organs such as the mind & senses. The man who detaches his mind from all the worldly objects / interests & concentrates on the omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, eternal, formless, pure & blissful God, becomes free from all the afflictions of body & mind, & obtains knowledge, strength, bliss, fearlessness, freedom & all other qualities of mind & character from God. This is the purpose of the practice of yoga.

By the practice of yoga, a person achieves full control over the mind. Due the control over the mind, concentration & memory power increases & the intellect grows fine & subtle. Man gets freedom from all pains only when he obtains the Salvation / Moksha. It is possible only when the latencies of ignorance are removed / destroyed. These latencies are destroys only by the direct experience of God in Samadhi. Samadhi is the state of mind in which all fluctuation of the mind are at a standstill in perfect peace. The state of mental peace is attained by the observance of the Eight-fold yoga practice ; Yama ( social ethics ), Niyama ( personal ethics ), Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana & Samadhi.

VISION

In the beginning, God gave language and the knowledge to the man kind so that they can spiritually progress in life and do their duties in the society. This knowledge is exposed in the Vedas using Sanskrit language. In time the Sanskrit language and the true understanding of the vedic knowledge was corrupted and misinterpreted. This has lead to Unhappiness and chaos in the society.
Now there is a dire need once again to bring this knowledge to the light. This process was initiated by Dayanand Saraswati in 18th century. He gave the message" Back to Vedas" and dedicated his life to this cause. Since then his work has been carried on by Arya Samaj and it's affiliated institutions.

This task requires creating teachers and dedicated preachers who are proficient in Vedic knowledge and are willing to spend their life to benefit the whole of men kind. Darshan Yog Mahavidyalay  in Gujrat in India is engaged in providing this valuable resources.
